“Being someone’s first love may be great, but to be their last is beyond perfect.” – Unknown
Valentine’s Day. The one day a year that most people either love or truly cannot stand.
I know many people feel that Valentine’s Day is a Hallmark holiday or created so you have to spend more money. For me, I am someone who absolutely adores this day!
I agree with the sentiment that you should love and do nice things for your significant other everyday of the year. But, a day dedicated just to love? Yes please!
You may call me a hopeless romantic or ridiculous even but I will take any chance I can to show my husband how much I love and appreciate him! We have never been the type to buy extravagant gifts or go overboard for Valentine’s Day, in fact most years we don’t even have a babysitter!
More times than not, it can be difficult to find someone to watch your little one on Valentine’s Day. In the six years since she was born, I think we have gone out once for a date on this day which is honestly fine with me! There is no reason why, even if you are home, you can’t make this day romantic and have a little date night when the kids go to bed!
I want to share a few ideas with you if you and your significant other find yourself in the same boat as us and don’t have a babysitter so you can go out! Get creative and enjoy each other!
Cook dinner together.
This is something that I honestly adore doing with my husband! As parents, I feel like a lot of our meals are kid-friendly and we tend to not stray from recipes that we know we all like. Most nights, we like to sit down at the table together and eat and chat about our day. But instead of actually eating with the kids, wait until they go to bed and have a late meal! Whenever we do this we like to try a new recipe and we do all the prepping and cooking together. Light a candle or two on the table while you eat for a romantic feel!
Have a picnic on the floor.
After you are done cooking the meal, grab a large blanket and have a picnic on the floor! Turn out the lights and bring your candles to where you are sitting. How fun is it to stretch out, get comfy and enjoy dinner in a different way?! A perfect date night at home for Valentine’s Day!
Make your living room into a movie theater.
Set the couch up in front of the TV. Make some popcorn. Grab a box of SnoCaps and pop in a movie. We love doing this together! We turn out the lights and silence our phones like in the movies! It’s so fun to just spend time with each other and watch a movie neither of you have seen before. When you can’t get to the movie theater, this is the next best thing!
Break out those board and card games.
Uno anyone?! How about some Trouble? Sure, these might have been your kids’ Christmas presents but that doesn’t mean you can’t play them too! Wait until the kids go to bed and break out these bad boys. It is so much fun to challenge each other to a game or two! Maybe even make it a bet? Winner doesn’t have to do the dishes for the week. As long as you are having fun and laughing together, that is all that counts!
Yes, you read that right! A spa night. Grab some face masks and get beautiful! Now, this is probably not something my husband would want to do although I may be able to convince him to. It’s just something fun and different to do together. You can have your masks on while you watch your movie in your makeshift movie theater! Making memories! 🙂
Do a craft.
I absolutely love crafts! My daughter and I do crafts as often as possible! Something my husband and I have in common is that we both like to paint. For us, a craft night would consist of canvases, paints, brushes and more. Grab some supplies from your local store, or Dollar Tree, and make a gift for each other!
Valentine’s Day isn’t about the gifts or the flowers or the chocolates. No matter how you choose to spend it, the most important thing on this day is to just be together! Celebrate your love!
