I honestly can’t believe that summer is already upon us! School is out, kids are home and the normal everyday routine is out the window.
I don’t know about you but I am someone who thrives on a routine. I like to know what to expect each day and have a plan set.
Last year was my first summer home with my daughter after she started school and I was flying by the seat of my pants. Literally. I had no idea what I was doing. I figured it would be the same as when I was a stay at home mom, but boy was I wrong.
My little one was bored and getting in trouble, I was stressed and frustrated and no one had fun. Not even the dogs.
This year, I am doing it completely differently. This year, I have a plan. (Thank goodness because last summer was rough.)
I have seen so many people posting ideas on Pinterest and Facebook for a daily summer schedule for the kids, so I decided to change it a little and come up with my own. Each day will be something different for us to do, something fun that will allow us to spend time together while also having some structure.
I want my daughter to enjoy her time off from school but in order to have a successful summer, there needs to be some order and less chaos. (I stole that from my husband.)
If you are looking for a way to truly enjoy your summer home with the kids while also maintaining the structure that comes with school, then you have to try out this schedule with me!
Now, this may be the schedule that we are using this summer but feel free to tweak it to fit your family’s needs and wants. Print your schedule out. Tape it to your fridge. Sit down and explain it to the kids. Have fun deciding on the activity you will do for each day’s theme.
Most of all, enjoy this time home with you little ones and create beautiful summer memories!
Make It Monday
This is definitely going to be our favorite day of the week! My daughter is all about arts and crafts and creating projects. On Mondays, we are going to make something new, whether it be a craft or a recipe together. As often as I can I let her help me in the kitchen so this will be fun to do on some Mondays!
Teach It Tuesday
Definitely an unpopular opinion with my daughter but in the summer, I firmly believe that she still needs to be learning and growing academically. Yep, she is not a fan. On Tuesdays, we are going to spend some time learning and going over topics to make sure she is ready for school to start back up in September. One thing I want to focus on this summer is spelling and writing. This will probably be her least favorite day!
Walk It Out Wednesday
On Wednesdays, we are going to make it a point to go for a walk. We are big fans of being in nature so I am determined to find a different place for us to walk each week. We live about 20 minutes from the beach so I want to make sure we take a walk along the beach at least twice this summer!
Take A Trip Thursday
Go to the library. Go check out a museum or a landmark in your area. That is what Thursdays are going to be all about for us! This doesn’t mean having to spend a lot of money either. We live on a tight budget so most things that we go and do are either free or very inexpensive! You’d be surprised at how many things there are to do with your little ones that don’t break the bank.
Fun In The Water Friday
Sprinklers, pools, splash parks, oh my! Playing in the water is one of the best things about the summertime. We love running through the sprinklers or jumping the waves at the beach. If it is a rainy day on a Friday, that means playing with Barbies in the bath or making a pool for them to splash around in instead of us going outside!
For the summer, I am planning to spend our weekends like we always do during the school year. Saturday and Sunday are for relaxing, being lazy, seeing family, etc. aka the best things to do in my opinion! I don’t want everyday to be busy so we will take the weekend to just be together and start up with our schedule again on Monday.
Do you have a schedule during the summer for the kids?? What is something you would do on one of these days??
