“Messy bun and getting stuff done.” – Every busy mom everywhere
Busy. What does that word mean to you?
If you are a mom, busy may mean running errands, dropping off at soccer practice, helping with homework, going to work and everything in between. Sound familiar?

When I first launched my blog last October, I had a really hard time juggling it all. With all of the responsibilities I have each day, from school and work to karate and dance, I constantly felt like I was being pulled in a million different directions.
I knew I wanted to spend as much time as possible on Karen Sincerely but no matter what I did, I didn’t have enough time for everything I needed to do. This blog has really been a passion project for me and something that I really adore working on each day.
Being a mom and a wife is also very important to me so I didn’t want to neglect those aspects of my life during this journey of creating my little corner of the internet.
After a few months, I decided that I needed to really figure out how to balance my life and incorporate my side hustle into my everyday life.
I know our lives as moms can be busy. I know you may have set aside a lot of your interests and dreams to focus on being the best mom you can be.
If you are like me and have a passion you are looking to pursue or maybe you are looking to make some extra money for your family, I want to share with you some of the things that have absolutely transformed my life and have allowed me to spend the time that I want to working on this blog as well as continuing to be with my family!
Plan out your day
Okay, this has been the most important thing I have done to help me find time to devote to my blog. Grab a planner and map out your day. For me, it is so much easier to see it written down and on paper. For instance, on Tuesdays, I know I don’t have a lot of time to write because of the commitments with my daughter.
So, I write out what I have to do, what work needs to be done that day on the blog and when I can fit it in. I carry my planner with me everywhere I go, dedication I tell you, and periodically update it. I may be a little OCD with it but it keeps me on track!
Wake up before the kids
This one I have such a hard time doing but on those days when I manage to drag myself out of bed around 6 am, I am so productive! My daughter typically wakes up around 7:00 or 7:15 in the morning which gives me about an hour of quiet time to write.
I am someone who loves my sleep, I mean I love my sleep, so this doesn’t happen everyday of the week. I try to wake up early at least twice a week and even just those two days can make a huge difference. If you are able to get up before the kids five days a week, then you will find it so much easier to fit your side hustle into your busy week.
Keep the TV off while you are working
You are probably rolling your eyes at me right now, and I’m okay with that, but bear with me. For me, whenever I have the TV on in the background, I am distracted. Sure, I can still write and get what I need to done but it will take me much longer because I find myself looking up and trying to do both things at one time.
In order to really use your time wisely when you are working on that side hustle, eliminate distractions like the TV. Buzzkill, I know, but it truly makes a difference!
Sacrifice some down time
In order to weave my blog into my day, I have had to sacrifice some down time. Before, as soon as my little one was in bed, I would turn on a show or two and unwind or get in bed and read for an hour or two before I go to sleep.
Now, I open up my laptop and get to work. My DVR has taken a huge hit, I am really slacking on my Real Housewives, but I cherish this time that I get to do nothing but work. The kitchen is cleaned up, the dogs are fed, I am showered and I can completely focus on what needs to get done for Karen Sincerely.
Use a scheduling tool for social media
Last but not least, if your side hustle is a blog or business that uses social media, using a scheduling tool like Tailwind for Pinterest has been life changing. Now I am able to spend one or two hours setting up my pins for the week instead of taking time every single day to pin. I can’t even tell you the difference this has made!
Typically, I use Sunday afternoons to set up my Tailwind queue for the upcoming week. Once I have published a new post and am ready to pin it to all of my boards, I create the pin and add it to my queue. Then, I move it around to scatter it throughout the pins I already have set to go.
This takes about 10 minutes and then I am done! I don’t have to think about it again until the next week. If I have even more time on Sundays, I will schedule out two or three weeks. It just depends on how long I can spend on it that day. If you haven’t checked out Tailwind yet, you should definitely try it!
I know it can be difficult to find time in your busy life to add in a side hustle or a hobby but there are lots of different things you can do to make it happen! Trust me, my system is a work in progress, but I promise that once you establish what works for you it will become a lot easier.
Do you have a side hustle that you are working on? What are some things you have done to fit it into your busy mom life? XOXO
